Just another day in the checkout line

Yesterday I was in an itsy-bitsy grocery store in the Stuttgart train station. A bunch of people are lined up. An elderly man walks straight up to the counter.

"You have to get in the line," says the clerk (anstellen).

He doesn't, but in time, it's his turn to pay.

"Next time, get in the line."

"Next time, I'll shop somewhere else."
